3 Worlds Bando Training Club was formed in honor of Grandmaster Dr. Maung Gyi and dedicated to the practice, promotion, and preservation of traditional American Bando sets, forms, and weapons.
We began just as a monthly training session for Black Belts of NKS to learn the Kukri. The original members expressed interest in learning Bando as a system and we expanded our training to include the forms, and a year later, we’re an official training club.
We are not an established Bando school and since we meet only once or twice per month, we are not designed to take on absolute beginners. Our training method is for those already with MA experience with solid basics. To participate in a 3 Worlds Bando training we require a 1st degree black belt or higher in any martial art. Advanced Bando students, under 1st level, may train with us if it’s okay with your instructor. If you’re a Bando student without an instructor or looking to get back into training please contact us and say, “hi” we’d love to hear from you.
There is no cost to become a member of 3 Worlds Bando, nor do we have any dues. Although you’ll be treated like a member, official membership is based on a group vote after we get to know you.
Training session fees:
NKS Black Belts – free.
ABA members $20 mat fee for the venue, pay cash at the door.
Nonmembers $30 mat fee for the venue, pay cash at the door.
Attire: For empty-handed training - black pants and black shirt. Shoes.
Attire: for Kukri Training: Training Kukri of wood or plastic. Live Kukri with traditional scabbard (very important) and a belt to wear the Kukri. [For drawing, returning, and cutting practice]
